More Myths Revolving Around Fireplaces

Here are more myths that may be said about fireplaces.

There’s nothing quite like enjoying a cup of coffee or hot cocoa while getting cozy by the fireplace.A fireplace can be one of the biggest focal points of any room where you install one. There are, however, a few myths that have popped up about fireplaces that may discourage people from getting one. We’ve discussed some of these myths in the past, but we have a few more we want to debunk today. Here are more myths that may be said about fireplaces.

“If You Don’t Use Your Chimney, Inspections Won’t Be Needed”

One thing to know about fireplace maintenance is that soot and creosote will build up as time goes on. You may think that, without using your chimney, you won’t need to inspect your fireplace because soot and creosote will not have been created.

The truth, however, is that there are other reasons to inspect your home fireplace. Cracks in the liner or masonry, as well as moisture damage, can compromise the structural integrity of your fireplace. That’s why, even if you haven’t been using the chimney, you’ll still want to get an annual inspection done. This way, you can take care of problems while they’re small, meaning you can avoid bigger and more expensive repairs in the future.

“Fireplaces Don’t Make Rooms Warm”

Fireplaces are known for how beautiful they can be. As such, it’s possible to believe that their primary function is to make rooms look better rather than make them warmer. Fortunately, fireplaces can accomplish both of these tasks.

While fireplaces are great for improving the look of any room that has one, they’re also able to generate heat that keeps your room at a comfortable temperature, even when outdoor temperatures go down. If your fireplace isn’t giving you the heat you want, you could add fire inserts to your fireplace so that the fire burns hotter.
