Are you getting a new countertop for your kitchen? If so, there are many materials from which to choose, so how do you decide on the right one? Today, we’re going to cover the pros and cons of different kitchen countertop materials so you can decide on the best option for your home.
Marble
Marble countertops are known for their elegance, as well as a practically timeless look that complements many home aesthetics. They also come with heat resistance, and they can raise the value of your home, over time.
You will have to handle many maintenance tasks, though, which means you’ll have to invest a lot of time into caring for your countertop. They can also be scratched up if you try to clean them with abrasive cleaning materials.
Granite
Granite is one of the more durable kitchen countertop materials you can get. It’s resistant to heat, just like marble, but it also has the benefit of scratch resistance too. What’s more is that granite is available in a variety of different colors and patterns to match whatever style your home has.
A downside is that you’ll have to pay a higher upfront cost for granite, and you can still chip and crack this material if it receives heavy impact. You’ll also need to seal your countertop every 3-5 years if you want to keep it resistant against stains.
Soapstone
Soapstone has the benefit of being stain-resistant without sealing, unlike granite kitchen countertops. They also have the same heat resistance as the other kitchen countertop materials that we’ve mentioned. If that wasn’t enough, you won’t have to perform a lot of upkeep to keep your countertop in good condition.
Something that’s not as appealing with soapstone is that styles and colors tend to be limited. You also have to worry about scratching and denting if you’re not too careful around it.
