Our custom rock fabrication services use state of the art equipment, including Slabsmith digital templating software, to produce highly accurate digital slabs from physical stone. Slabsmith digital slabs show color and dimension true to life, so you can see specific features within the stones that you want to avoid or showcase. Having access to high-end fabrication tools allows us to offer clients a visual outline of what your surface will look like, and our superior fabrication tools allow us to offer precise customization at a great value.
Rock Tops Fabrication, Inc. has the experience, process, technology, and craftsmanship to turn your project vision into a reality. Known for our waterfall end panel and mitered edge profile fabrication, we are the premier custom rock fabricators in greater Baltimore and the surrounding counties, including the eastern shore of Maryland and Washington, D.C.
The Fabrication Process
Once all the precise measurements have been made and the digital template has been approved by the client, the project is assigned to our fabrication team for production. We have leading edge machinery for cutting, honing, polishing, and preparing any type of stone to your exact specifications. Our experienced technicians are highly trained and have the expertise to handle any job from a straightforward rectangular surface to the most complex designs.
Before fabrication starts, each slab is carefully examined one more time. The piece is then cut using a laser-guided, water-cooled diamond bit saw that precisely follows the approved digital template. The saw head rotates 360 degrees, is fully programmable, and can make a straight cut in any direction on the slab.
Once the countertops are cut, the edges are profiled and polished and the final touches are applied by our experienced craftsmen. After the fabrication is completed, our expertly-trained hand fabricator inspects every inch of the completed countertop and applies any further improvements needed. The improvements may include additional polishing, resolving any sharp edges, or mending any chips in the edge profiles. Once satisfied with the final product, the countertop is thoroughly cleaned and sealed with a sealer appropriate for the type of stone.
Stack Lamination and Mitered Edge Profiles
There are two main options for edge profiles that give your surface an appealing look. The first is a mitered edge. A mitered edge gives the illusion of one thick solid slab of stone by creating a frame around the sides, making the slab look thicker. This is a great way to make your kitchen countertops the focal point, and it can work well in either a modern or traditional kitchen.
The second option for a countertop edge profile is a stacked or laminated edge, which is the method of stacking two matching stones on top of each other to offer the illusion of a single piece that has been cut into tiers.
Waterfall End Panel
Another stunning design feature that can make your stone countertops a focal point is to run them vertically down the edge of the island in such a way that the veining of the stone continues across the joint, creating a beautiful waterfall effect.
